Chelsea Suchomel

My name is Chelsea Suchomel and I am a second grade teacher here at Soaring Heights. (My last name is pronounced SOOK-uh-mel - it looks hard, but it's not so bad once you hear it!)
I am a Colorado native, and I graduated from CSU in 2012 with my degree in Human Development and Family Studies and my certification in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I taught first grade in Fort Collins for several years before taking a short break from education. It wasn't long before I realized how much I missed trying to make a difference in kids' lives.
I started Soaring Heights' inaugural school year as the Technology Specials teacher, so I was lucky to get to work with all students in grades K-5. I then had the opportunity to take over a second grade classroom in January 2019, and I couldn't be happier to be a part of the second grade team. The most important thing to me is building a strong relationship with each student and using this as a foundation to create a positive classroom community together. I also love helping students set challenging goals and working to achieve them. My favorite part is encouraging kids to appreciate the feeling of accomplishment when they learn something new!
Outside of teaching, I love finding ways to relax with my family and friends. Some of my favorite ways are: spending time in the sun, getting absorbed in a good book, improving my home with DIY projects, and catching up on movies or TV shows. I am always excited to learn or try something new, so I hope you share your passions with me!
