Josh Kirkwood

I am thrilled about the opportunity to be the Middle School Music - Instrumental teacher and to work within the Erie community.  Currently, I am serving as the Director of Bands for Mead High School and have served in this role since opening the school in 2009.

I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. I studied with Mr. Gray Barrier, Dr. Eric Hollenbeck, Mr. Jon Kinzie, Dr. Steve Barnhart, and Mr. Mike Marlier.

While studying at the University of Northern Colorado, I performed with the University Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, University Brass Choir, University Percussion Ensemble I, and was the percussionist for the new music series. My professional experience includes performing with the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, Fort Collins Wind Symphony, and the Greeley Chamber Orchestra.

While at Mead High School I teach Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Percussion Ensemble, History of Rock and Roll, and Music Technology.  Under my direction the groups have earned superior ratings at festivals around the state.  The bands have placed consistently in the top 3 at the Cañon City Blossom Festival.  Also, since the start of these programs the band has grown to over 80 members and regularly places students in the All-State band as well as numerous honor bands throughout the year.

I live in Frederick, CO with my wife Sabrina and two children, Madeline and Christopher.
