I am thrilled to become a member of the fabulous Soaring Heights team!
My experiences in the classroom began shortly after obtaining my B.A. in Journalism from UNC Greeley. In 2004, I joined the U.S. Peace Corps and served for two years in Mongolia teaching English. My placement began at the elementary level (K-8) and eventually segued into a position at a teacher’s college. In my second year of service, I was also invited to assist in the training and development of new volunteers, assisting with professional training and classroom observations for volunteers who would be working within the sector of education.
After the Peace Corps, I was accepted into the Japan Exchange Teaching Program. I lived on a small island located in the Gulf of Japan and was assigned to four elementary schools and two junior high schools. It was during this time that I realized education was my true calling. In 2008, I returned home to obtain a Master’s of Arts in Teaching at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau.
Since completing my graduate studies, I’ve had the great opportunity to teach in Alaska, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and Colorado. When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me traveling, hiking, camping, snowboarding, and cross country skiing with my husband, David, and three boys Alexander, Benjamin, and Christopher. We are so happy to have returned to our “home state,” and look forward to being a part of the Soaring Heights community!
