Pam Hurd

I am honored and enthusiastic to be joining the team at Soaring Heights PK-8 this year and look forward to working together with the parents, students and fellow colleagues to make this a successful year for all.

I grew up in Arizona and graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, followed by a Master of Arts in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Educational Leadership. During this time, I was teaching 5thgrade. Upon completion of my Master’s degree, I was offered the opportunity to teach conversational English in South Korea for one year. I returned to Yuma and taught 3rdand 5thgrades and completed my Principalship Certificate. I married my husband, who was in the military, and we moved to North Carolina, where I taught 6thgrade Language Arts. I then took a few years off to stay home with my three children, and during that time we moved to Washington, DC, back to Yuma, and then to Okinawa, Japan. While in Japan, I returned to teaching 4th and 5thgrades with the Department of Defense schools. Just when we thought our adventures with the Marine Corps were over, we were offered a transfer to Stuttgart, Germany, which we happily accepted. While there, I made the decision to substitute teach at the elementary school and traveled extensively throughout Europe. My husband recently retired from the Marine Corps, and we are now ecstatic to call Erie our new “forever” home.

Outside of teaching, I love planning and exploring new places and cultures with my family, reading, baking, and trying to keep up with my family on the slopes. I have found that snow shoeing and cross-country skiing are fun, too!
