The Soaring Heights Jazz Band is an after school club available to all 7th and 8th grade students with at least one year of experience playing a musical instrument. We will explore different genres of jazz music including swing, rock, latin and many more. The Jazz Band will perform alongside the Soaring Heights Band and Orchestra at three concerts throughout the school year and will travel to a Jazz Festival in Longmont in the spring. While the group is open to students who play any instrument, we have limited availability for drums, piano, bass and guitar. If a student is using a school instrument for jazz and is not already renting an instrument through the school there will be a rental fee for that instrument. If this is the second school instrument they are renting I will waive the fee.

The 6th Annual CodeZone Challenge, a middle school Python coding competition designed to expand coding opportunities for students across St. Vrain Valley. Our goal is to provide students of all backgrounds and experience levels with a fun, engaging, and memorable learning experience. In addition there will be weekly practices leading up to the tournament.
The CodeZone Challenge features two competition divisions:
- Novice Division – for students new to Python
- Advanced Division – for students with more Python experience
Students will compete in teams of 2–4 students from the same school and may choose both their teammates and division.
During the competition, each team will work through approximately 25 Python-based problems, with difficulty varying by division. Teams earn points for each correctly solved problem, and the team with the highest score in each division will win a trophy and medals. Second-place teams will also receive medals.
